Iván Ortiz-Monasterio is an agronomist and principal scientist at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center. He focuses on plant nutrition and soil fertility to improve nutrient use efficiency in cereal systems through crop management and improvement, to increase productivity, nutritional quality and profitability while reducing environmental impact. His research has involved the development of technologies and technology transfer to farmers’ fields, emphasising the use of precision agriculture with optical sensors for nutrient diagnosis. He has also worked on the application of remote sensing in agriculture.
